Will mediacom let us go into our router’s bridged mode and open ports in my router with port forwarding? We’re paying for the best internet package, you’d think mediacom would provide a router/modem that is capable of handling apps and connections. We’ve had a tech out and while he was nice and he tried, ultimately he said we have to buy our own hardware. With what we’re paying, I don’t feel we should have to. Is there a different router/modem mediacom offers that would better support apps?

Among Mediacom’s equipment offerings, the Eero stands out, and is the top solution.

When you use Eero or any wifi router with Mediacom, your modem will be put into bridge mode.

So the issue with port fowards, pinholes, etc & other names for using an open port on a company modem/roouter combo is it creates a potential vulnerability on a private network that can be exploited by a malicious user if not properly set up and/or maintained. Ususally for that reason alone an ISP or their rep isn't going to help you do this to avoid liability should your network become compromised. You're better off buying your own router you can manipulate yourself. The eero systems are great since their app has easy step by step secure instructions. Good luck!
