A few weeks ago, I received an e-mail stating that my internet speeds were being increased from 400 Mbps to 600 Mbps and the cost of my plan was going up $10 a month. However, in the last couple weeks, the speed has not increased - some times only 250 - 300 Mbps download and never much over 400 Mbps.
I connected my laptop directly to my modem (Arris SB8200 - should be gigabit ready) and was only able to get 200 - 300 Mbps download speeds. I tried to factory reset the modem - no help. I used to be able to go to my Mediacom account page and troubleshoot to send a reset signal to the modem, but now it just says it can't connect to my modem. I have internet, but not the speeds I'm being charged the additional $10 a month for.
Can anyone help with this?
I apologize if you are having issues reaching the speeds that were recently upgraded in the area. To confirm the provisioning on your device, we would suggest that you contact our customer service department by SMS text messaging to 66554. If you have not activated this yet, simply send the word JOIN. Our representative will be able to provide additional trouble shooting steps after confirming your subscription and if necessary, can schedule a visit to further investigate.
Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, that was about as helpful as a small hammer to the head.
I found out that I do have a Docsis 3.1 modem (already knew that) and that my new tier is 600 Mbps / 3 TB cap. I did get thanked for contacting them. I guess that's something.
Is there anyone that actually knows how to look at the connection or modem and tell me why I'm not really getting the 600 Mbps I'm now being charged for?
Hello Bmgottschalk. Does your laptop have a 10/100/1000Mbps or better network card, and is the ethernet cable you use CAT 5e or better? Have you tried using a different ethernet cord?
While checking these items, please check the coax cable connections at the back of the modem and the wall outlet to ensure they are secure and reboot your modem. When the modem is back online, power up your laptop and test http://speedtest.mediacomtoday.com/. Please let me know the results. Thank you-
