Courtesy of noaa.govCourtesy of noaa.govThe 2024 hurricane season is off to an early start, with a powerful category-four storm already affecting the Caribbean Islands. Even if a storm is not currently posing a direct threat to your area, it's wise to prepare in advance rather than wait for an emergency situation.

Here are some things you can do now that will save time later:

  • Write down and program emergency numbers into your cellphone.
  • Organize important documents (medical records, insurance, passports, etc.)
  • Locate the nearest shelter and know different routes to get there from your home.
  • Pet owners: Pre-identify pet-friendly shelters or out-of-town friends/relatives for evacuation.
  • Prepare an emergency supply kit with essentials like food, water, medicine, flashlights, gasoline, and personal items.

REMEMBER: As severe weather approaches, lines at the fuel pump and the grocery store will grow fast, and many essential items may sell out. Take time now to get organized and BE PREPARED!
