Fry Fest 2024-A tribute to Hayden Fry and all things Hawkeye!

Attention all Hawkeye Fans!

Fry Fest 2024 is coming up quickly and its time to get pumped up about all things Hawkeye! The event is set for August 30th and for those of you are not familiar with why we have Fry Fest, let me give you a run down of what is it and what they have to offer! 

Fry fest 2024-Google ImagesFry Fest was first started 15 years ago as a tribute to the legendary head football coach, Hayden Fry. Hayden Fry, originally from Texas, took over a long struggling Iowa football program in 1979, and in just 3 seasons, gave them their first bowl game appearance in 17 years. Fry's tenure at Iowa lasted until 1998 and he compiled 14 bowl appearances during that time. When he retired in 1998, he handed the reins to the current coach, Kirk Ferentz, who was hand picked by Fry to take over the program. 

Fry Fest is not only meant to pay homage to the legend Hayden Fry but also is now a beloved tradition to help kick off football season in Iowa City. Some of the events at Fry Fest include

- The Largest Hawkeye Collectors Showcase where you can see all the Hawkeye memorabilia through the years!

- Kids zone for the youngest of the Hawkeye fans

- A wide selection of food trucks for every taste and foodie out there

- Various tournaments including Cornhole and Pickleball!

-The Parade of Herkie the Hawkeye where we get to look at the famed mascot throughout the years!
