April 9th, 2024 - Mediacom Communications has recently announced a significant partnership with Tarana Wireless. This collaboration is set to utilize Tarana’s innovative next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) technology, known as Gigabit 1 (G1), to address the challenges of expanding broadband services to unserved markets.
The G1 platform is designed to overcome common technological hurdles such as radio interference and obstructions like buildings or trees that can disrupt wireless connections. In tests, G1 has demonstrated exceptional performance, surpassing the 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload speeds mandated by the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) program.
This strategic move will enable Mediacom to deploy ngFWA technology in areas where they have received RDOF funding, aiming to provide high-speed internet to thousands of households. The deployment of ngFWA is expected to offer fiber-class reliability with the ease of wireless technology installation.
The hybrid network approach, which combines existing cable or fiber infrastructure with ngFWA, opens new service possibilities for Mediacom. We are all excited about the potential of ngFWA to not only meet but exceed RDOF requirements and to expand into markets that were previously out of reach.
